Like Udham Singh I too waited 21 years: Shoojit Sircar

Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, who has been active in Hindi cinema for the past decade and a half, has directed many films like Vicky Donor, Piku and Gulabo Sitabo in his career. The film Sardar Udham, directed by him, will release on October 16 on Amazon Prime Video. This film starring Vicky Kaushal is a biopic film of revolutionary Sardar Udham Singh. After the Jallianwala massacre in the year 1919, he took revenge by going to London in 1940 and killing its responsible officer Michael O’Dwyer. According to Shoojit, this was the first film he thought of making after coming to Mumbai. He says, ‘It is very unfortunate that Sardar Udham Singh has been left behind for the country except for Punjab.

People in other parts do not know as much as they know about Shaheed Bhagat Singh and other revolutionaries. A man who travels alone to Europe to avenge his country tries to build his team there. Yet we do not know much about them. I and producer Rani Lahiri had decided that whatever happens, we will make this film. When I came to Mumbai for the first time in the year 2000, I had brought this film. At that time I did not have that much money and neither did people in the industry know me. I just had a passion to make this film. In such a situation, like Sardar Udham Singh, I have also waited for 21 years to bring this film to the public.
